House Concert with Rick Fines – Fundraiser for Winter Railway Trail, Sunday 21 September, 2014

2014-09-21 16.47.57

On a rainy Sunday afternoon, over 50 people attended a house concert fundraiser with singer/song writer Rick Fines.  Based in Peterborough and with some 30 years learning from blues and folk masters, Fines treated the crowd to a spectacular concert of original songs and informal story-telling.  Along with blues riffs, intimate character portraits, and Louis Armstrong mouth-trumpet, he gave us the coolest music history lesson, from ragtime to blues/jazz, with a special tribute to the legendary Bessie Smith.

The event raised $1250.00 for donations for the Chelsea Winter Community Railway Trail.  For the past several years Sentiers Chelsea Trails has worked closely with the Municipality of Chelsea to support the creation of a non-motorized, groomed and multi-functional community trail along the railway corridor.  Appropriate for skiing, walking, running and snowshoeing, this beautiful trail is a community building link between Chelsea neighbourhoods during the winter months.  The consistently positive and supportive outpouring of response from residents is a tribute to its success.

Please show your support for the Winter Community Railway Trail, by contributing to our fundraising efforts – stay tuned -and by sending us your Winter Trail Stories.  And, of course, by enjoying the trail!

A special thank you to Roberta Walker and Sandy Foote for their warm hospitality and organizing the gig.

Chelsea’s Active Transportation Master Plan

The new Active Transportation Master Plan was presented at the September Chelsea Municipal Council meeting. It will be approved at the next council meeting in October. Mayor Caryl Green is inviting Chelsea residents to consult the Plan and submit their comments.

The Plan is a major accomplishment for our municipality and Sentiers Chelsea Trails is proud to have participated in its creation and development – we were actually the instigators of this project.  The Master Plan will guide the municipality and SCT in our future planning and building of community trails, biking paths and multiple-use trails for years to come. This is why we invite SCT members and supporters to read the Master Plan on the municipality’s Website at http://www.chelsea.ca/?q=node/61 and submit your comments and suggestions at the following email address loisirs@chelsea.ca.

Please note that the Master Plan is available only in French at the moment.
